Breaking Ground and Breaking Par
Something I’ve talked about here before is the grit and stamina it takes to start and run a golf league. So pick up what I’m putting down when I tell you that the perseverance it takes to pour your energy into not just one league, but to build MORE than one, all WHILE working a full-time job? That is a whole different level of hard.
So now let me introduce you to our hero of the moment, a woman to watch, Nicole Horst.
She works full-time in construction. Yeah, a man’s world, if you will. An industry that, let’s be honest, is mostly dudes. And as Nicole grew in her career, she started to notice just how much business was actually getting done out on the golf course. She also had a sneaking feeling that not many women like her felt all that invited to that table.
And that got her thinking… and looking. When she couldn’t find a beginner-friendly league that matched the vision in her head, she did the only logical thing. She launched her own: The Girls Golf Club. On top of her job. In her “spare time.” As one does.
Now here’s one of the things I love most about Nicole. Even while she’s building (pun absolutely intended), she’s the first to tell you she is not doing this alone.
Her club has grown into multiple chapters with many more on the way, and every single time she talks about it, she turns right around and gives the credit back to her hosts.
None of that “look what I built” energy. She’s much more of a “look what WE built” kind of woman. And that, my dear reader, is exactly the kind of energy that keeps a vision like hers growing.
Nicole truly wants women to show up, have a good time, make real connections, and leave with friends and a bigger network than they walked in with. That’s it. That’s the whole mission, and damn, it’s a great one.
So between the day job, the chapters, and a second Girls Golf Getaway in the works, yeah.
Consider her one to watch.
